On the veranda of my classroom when I was five years old, I lifted the lid of a small metal bin and was instantly hooked. Inside was an earthy goodness that smelt of my woodland home. I had discovered clay!
Since that day I’ve travelled many creative paths and all have brought me back to my first love; clay as a vehicle for expression. I have hunted, dug, studied, explored, wept with frustration and celebrated mastering a new skill. Pottery is the ultimate lesson in patience, and a reminder of the beauty in imperfection.
You’ll likely see the influence of living near the ocean in many of my pieces. This year I have been particularly inspired by the amazing granite boulders in the South-West of WA. Stunning blue waters, stretches of unspoilt beach, the sometimes moody skies that meet and melt into the ocean at the horizon — all these elements are at play in my designs.
From studio at Stackwood in Fremantle, Western Australia, I create unique pieces with emotional authenticity, preferring essential beauty over conventional perfection. My work is produced on the wheel & also hand built.
